#1 - Hybrid Noise Cancellation:
The new V5 Headset by PPG Smoke features a unique and industry leading hybrid noise cancellation. Firstly is the standard protection from the earmuff itself, which offers 24dB of protection. The earmuff features a gel ear cup standard are is slightly larger in size to get a better seal around the ear. The better the seal, the better the noise protection. The second form of noise cancellation is from the active noise cancellation (ANC) that can be toggled on and off. The ANC is tuned to cut out the noises paramotor pilots face most: wind, prop, engine, etc and is tuned for 50-300hz. The ANC offers and additional 16dB in noise cancellation bringing your total protection to 41db. The V5 headset can also come with a MMCX earbud and those can add an additional 35-40dB in protection depending on your choice of earbud.

The new V5 Headset is also built with a voice activity detection (VAD) system, which is designed to cut out background noise when speaking into the microphone. Let's face it, flying can be loud and when you're talking to someone via the microphone it can be a challenge to hear them in the air. The VAD system does a fantastic job at cutting out the background noise of the wind, motor, propeller, etc and hyper focusing on just the pilots voice. Even at full throttle the VAD system does a fantastic job at making the pilot easy to understand, loud and clear.

NDVC dynamically adjusts your volume levels based on the situation at hand. Incoming radio traffic automatically takes priority, lowering music or call audio when needed. #8 - MMCX / Earbud's - Now Available:
The PPG Smoke V5 Headsets are now available with a built in MMCX (earbud) cord for simple plug and play installation. For those of you who don't know what this is, it is a cord that gives you the ability to plug an earbud into it so your music comes through the earbud instead of the speaker. Some people prefer this over the speaker as it does give additional noise protection. Not everyone prefers earbuds, as some people's ears do not prefer having anything in them, which we understand. Those of you who are not sure which to choose, ask yourself if you'd prefer to have the music come through the speakers or through an "airpod" like earbud that you place in your ear. The earbud is not included in the headset purchase, and you can find a slew of options on amazon. BASN earbuds are our top recommendation with foam eartips for max noise protection. The MMCX version has the ability to swap between speakers and earbuds as you'd please. You do have to remove the earcup to access the switch.

Radio Cable - PLEASE read:
Radio cables have been a very big challenge and we want to be transparent about them to our customers. Every radio brand has different cables, and within their radio lineup they even have several cable variations. Please let us know exactly which radio you have when ordering a radio cable so we can get you the correct one. If you get a slightly wrong cable, certain things about it may not work. AKA, you may hear, but can't transmit, etc. If you get the wrong cable or have issues, let us know ASAP and we will get you the correct one. Thank you -Trevor

I have had the PPG Smoke V1 headset and the the V3 headset. Nothing but frustration with both versions. After learning that Trevor had acquired PPG Smoke, I decided to give the headset one more try.....so I ordered the new V5 headset. FINALLY, it is the real deal! Noise cancellation is fantastic. No more microphone issues. Seemless phone calls while in flight (the person on the other end can't even tell that I'm flying). I couldn't be happier. Well done Trevor and PPG Smoke!

I'm loving the new headset. If you have seen me on YouTube where I made my own headset, I always had cable issues and RF squeal in the microphone. BUT, with this new headset, there are no more cables except for the radio to the headset. The bluetooth is amazing, I can listen to phone music as well as take/make phone calls in flight which helps with instruction. The speakers are louder and clearer than my old ones. I haven't been able to record audio yet, but my friends say the microphone is plenty clear. I have talked to several general aviation planes at 3/4 full throttle and they could hear me just fine. Huge improvement over my home made DIY headset. The ONLY downside is the actual ear cups. My 3M Peltor ear cups had thicker/rounded foam where it touches my head, and it seemed to block the motor sound a little better. But other than that, I would definitely suggest these as an upgrade. Well worth it.
Amazing headset. I highly recommend adding the in ear headphones. Makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE! And they’re tough as hell as you can see in the picture.
Picked up a set of these while at Salton Sea.. After 30+ hrs I couldn't be more pleased!!! Power and volume buttons are easily accessible, so no more fumbling around trying to find buttons like on my other headset.. Volume and clarity- Really pumped to be able to listen to music and take phone calls with crystal clear clarity!! Climbed up while on full power to 11k and jammed out to "TOOL" the whole way and never missed a beat... Phone calls- A few of the parties didn't even know that I was flying!! Nice not having to constantly say "WHAT" while on a call... Sooo wish I would've bought these sooner!!! Well worth the investment🪂🪂
The PPG Smoke Headsets V5 are a game-changer. They are exceptionally comfortable, surpassing any other headset I've tried. The sound quality is absolutely amazing. It offers an immersive experience, especially when playing music. The sound quality is exceptionally well-defined. I really enjoy the noise cancellation. Furthermore, the call quality is unparalleled. I could hear whoever I was talking to perfectly, and they could hear me just as clearly. This made my phone conversations seamless. This review was based off of me using the Micro Avionics headsets for the past two years. The only thing I would like to see with these headsets would be to add away to be able to tether them for tandem use.
Been testing the QHR v5 headset for a few weeks and I’m very impressed with the noise cancellation and the overall audio experience. The headset is comfortable and I can hear music and listen to my apps (like gaggle) with ease. I can make phone calls and people can hear me even when flying at cruise speed with the motor running. The microphone seems to pick up a little bit of the noise when I turn my head to the side but otherwise it’s pretty solid. The earpiece itself is a little bit more loose fitting than the previous model but easily fixed with a little extra bend in the metal or a light headband. I will work on a long term fix but this shouldn’t be an issue of the headset itself more the helmet I use to attach them. Overall a great headset and still my go to choice for flying.
Headset is good, as and works very well, but I was disappointed with the priority shipping. £20 for priority shipping, which was not dispatched same day [despite there being plenty of time], and was on a 48 hour delivery instead of next day - so not really worth the extra!

I couldn't be happier with my purchase of the PPG Smoke V5 Headset with MMCX (Earbud) option. Shipping was incredibly fast, and everything arrived very well packaged. Opening the box, it was immediately obvious that PPG Smoke takes pride in their products. Everything was neatly organized, securely packed, and presented professionally. The headset itself is extremely comfortable, especially with the included gel ear pads. They create an excellent seal around your ears and provide outstanding noise protection. Even the standard speakers offer great sound quality. I haven't purchased a set of earbuds yet, so I can't comment on using them with the headset just yet (I'll update my review once I do). One concern I had before ordering the MMCX version was that the earbud wires might flop around and become annoying when the earbuds weren't being used. I reached out to PPG Smoke, and Trevor assured me the wires could be tucked away so you wouldn't even notice them. After receiving the headset, I can confidently say he was absolutely right. The wires stay completely out of the way, and you don't even realize they're there. I specifically chose the MMCX version because I wanted the flexibility to add earbuds later and take advantage of the additional hearing protection and noise isolation they provide. Having that option makes this headset even more versatile, and I can't wait to pick out a set of earbuds to pair with it. Pairing the headset with my phone was quick and effortless. The Bluetooth connection was seamless, and the audio quality was crystal clear for both music and phone calls. Everyone I spoke with said my voice came through clearly as well. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend the PPG Smoke V5 Headset to anyone looking for a high-quality paramotor headset. The comfort, hearing protection, sound quality, Bluetooth performance, and overall build quality have all exceeded my expectations. I'll update this review once I've had the opportunity to use a set of MMCX earbuds and after I've put more hours on the headset to comment on its long-term durability. That said, based on my first impressions, I don't anticipate any issues whatsoever. Everything about this headset feels exceptionally well made, and it appears to be a premium-quality product from top to bottom.

Bought a helmet and started with the Peltor X4's which were horrible. Then I upgraded to the X5's with a really cheap Amazon Bluetooth intercom. The speakers were so bad I could not hear them and phone conversations were the same. I also used my Sony active noise cancelling earbuds which worked very well with sound quality and noise reduction but my comms were not compatible so I had no communication while using. I finally pulled the trigger on these as I really wanted something I could communicate while flying with others and listen to quality music. I went with the MMCX's just in case I didn't get the noise reduction I wanted. First flight these things worked very well BUT I was still getting a little more noise than I wanted, however the speakers in these overpowered all the excess noise I was getting with ease and still have some volume to add but not needed. Second flight I opted to add the earbud's for more noise cancellation and I got exactly what I was looking for, quiet in flight with high quality sound! Now one thing I did not try was flying with ear plugs and just the cups to see how that works, I tried that on my old set and I could not hear the speakers but I think I will have a different outcome with these do to how loud the speakers are. Have not tried flying with my Insta 360 yet but looking forward to being able to Vlog during a video with high quality and seamless connectivity that these provide. Very pleased with purchase and would buy again.
Love them. Feel good sound good. Only thing I'd change is the placement of the connecting wire. With it out the top it forced me to cut my helmet holes extra large to accommodate the wire and connector.
Hi there. The ppgsmoke headset is finally available in EU and I pulled the trigger…and I must say it is really good! Speakers are good, insulation is even better than with the 3M-Peltor thanks to ANC! Unbelievably good is the noise cancellation of the microphone! I talked to my wife on the phone and she heard "very far away…in the background…some little engine sound"...WHILE I WAS IN FLIGHT!! The only thing: I think the PTT button apparently only works when the radio is connected by cable. (I have an Icom a16e with Bluetooth. With the Sena I could PTT via Bluetooth or activate Siri on the phone from the headset.). Still, I really like it 👍🏻
The perfect PPG Headset! As someone who has to carefully conserve his hearing, I always wear double hearing protection that even the biggest drivers can't overpower. This has made it impossible to connect comms in the past, but the new MMCX headset solves all of those problems by wiring earbuds directly into the comm suite of your headset, and the audio comes in crisp and clear. The PPG Smoke V5 integrates bluetooth and radio comms seamlessly with a clean audio-out to your GoPro. It's finally the solution I've been searching for over 8 years of PPG flying. The only points of improvement I can offer is to use a better foam over the mic to reduce wind noise, and to increase the gauge of the MMCX wires, which seem pretty fragile currently and may need repairing after some time of heavy use.

I have owned the V2 and V3 headsets, and the V5 is a vast improvement. The first time I used the new headset, I was caught off guard while warming up my motor. For a brief moment, I thought I wasn’t getting full power when testing full throttle. As it turns out, my senses were deceiving me, the active noise canceling made it sound like the engine wasn’t revving completely. Gaggle, streaming music, and two-way radio were all very clear!
Just got the V5 version. I have a helmet from Italy that is really light, but the headset that comes with it is terrible. The PPG Smoke headset has made a major difference in keeping the motor noise down, and the music sounds amazingly good. It was really simple to change them out, and they fit much more snug. It’s definitely nice!!!
This headset is a great addition to my helmet. The sounds quality is way cleaner that the headset that came standard on the Nvolo helmet. Additionally, the automatic noise cancelling is a great feature. I can use the headset at half volume and still achieve clear communications over the noise of the motor. Thanks Trevor.
🎧 PPG Smoke Headset Review – A Total Game Changer for Trike Flying Over the years, I’ve gone through several different helmet communication systems. I’ve used Sena, Cardo, and even tried an older Version 1 PPG Smoke headset that a friend owned. While the Version 1 impressed me with its noise canceling — honestly better than my 3M headset — it only supported a single Bluetooth connection. Since I fly a trike and rely on both my phone and an iPad Mini running Gaggle for pilot communication and navigation, I needed something more versatile. So I decided to upgrade to the Version 5 PPG Smoke headset. The Difference Is Night and Day. Outstanding Noise Canceling The noise reduction is phenomenal. In an open trike cockpit with engine and wind noise, clarity is everything — and this headset delivers. Louder and Clearer Audio The volume and audio clarity are significantly improved. Even at higher RPMs, transmissions are crisp and easy to understand. Multiple Bluetooth Connections This is what truly makes it shine. Day 1 Update: So far, so good. The noise cancellation is performing exactly as expected. One standout feature I noticed right away is the headset's seamless pairing with my Icom IC-A16B. When it's connected to both my phone and the airband radio, the headset intelligently prioritizes active airband transmissions over other audio sources. This automatic priority switching is a major safety advantage in the in the air. I'll keep putting it through real-world use and report back with more details as testing continues.
Really digging the QHR V5. The new mic position, chunky buttons, and simplicity of use is so nice. Sound quality is amazing, and none of my other headsets even compare. Of all my different headsets, I choose this for my daily.

Great head set very clear the only reason for 4 star is that the button to answer calls is very small and a little difficult to find. Bit so far it’s been working flawlessly.
